Speaking at Tedx Ghana

Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak to fifty young people during a Tedx event in Ghana, organised by Emmanuel Brown and supported by the United States embassy in Ghana. I am glad people expressed interest to join the next Mobile Web Ghana training program after my presentation. TEDx is a programme designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis (see http://www.ted.com/tedx). There were three main speakers at the event: Akumda Ben Asamoaning from Amiscus Onlus Ghana spoke on entrepreneurship as the engine of economic growth. He mentioned that in Ghana, approximately 250,000 graduates join the unemployment rate every year and the need for young people to think about creating their own jobs. Myra Michele Brown is the information Resource Officer for US embassy in Ghana and she spoke about her experience travelling around Africa. She trains young people on how to use social media to improve their lives. Lastly, Alfred Anyan (one of our recent graduates) from the Music Request team had an opportunity to demonstrate to the audience the music request voice application they have developed. The audience were thrilled and wished Alfred would launch the application before December. Alfred, however, got the opportunity to receive feedback on what they would like to be changed about the application. It was a good event.
