Farmerline Wins Mobile Web Ghana Second Apps Competition

Farmerline, one of the applications developed during the second Mobile Web Ghana training program, has won a cash prize of $600. Farmerline has been adjudged as the best project among all the six projects that participated in the second competition. Farmerline is a system that furnishes the stakeholders (farmers and investors) with agricultural information to improve productivity and increase income.It focuses on three opportunities:

  • Mobile information platform:farmers receive text alerts direct to their mobile phone, tailored to their location and the crops that they grow.
  • Farmer helplinefarmers use their mobile phone to call a helpline staffed by an interactive voice response system (IVR) to answer the frequently asked questions (FAQs) and by agricultural experts, giving them immediate advice.

Enhancing access to marketsfarmers use their phones to access market prices and also consumers will be able to get information on the agriculture products available.

iKwery project got the first runner up prize of $300. iKwery is an web-based sms application for storing and sharing digital business cards. Congratulations to the following teams who took part in the training session and presented innovative ideas for their mobile apps projects :

1. The Adaptive Computerized Identification Verification System (ACIVS) Project.
A framework designed to provide an instant and convenient means of verifying the validity of Ids via such mobile-based technologies as Short Message Service (SMS), Interactive Voice Response (IVR), and Mobile Web Technology.
2. mBackup
A mobile application that allows users of the application to backup their phone contacts to a remote server to get easy access to this essential information when the unforeseen happens.
3. WatzMaTime
An SMS application that allows users to conveniently check on the class and Exams schedule and allows lecturers to send updates to students whenever there is a change in class timetable.
4. Twaskr
A mobile platform that allows users to create, manage and share calendar activities with other users whom they want to see that information. Users can also get announcement of activities going on in their locality. And they can also buy and send virtual goods. Twaskr will be available on the mobile via mobile web and mobile apps.
