Mobile Web Ghana & Coders4Africa organize joint training program for software developers.

Mobile Web Ghana in collaboration with Coders4Africa is organizing a mobile & web programming training for software developers in Ghana.

Coders4Africa is a Pan-African community of software developers and technology enthusiasts who aim to create and support a Pan-African community of competent, internationally certified IT professionals focused on developing the IT tools for African Agriculture, Business, Education, Health Care, Government and general Social needs.

We are currently looking for passionate software developers and entrepreneurs to take part in our 3 month FREE training in partnership with Mobile Web Ghana. Our Practical Project Based Training (PPBT) aims to help local talent build applications that will bring useful service to local communities. Unlike traditional software development training practices, our program focuses on specific technologies in web/mobile, soft business skills and software development patterns while keeping the African context in mind. This approach, training and knowledge transfer treats every trainee as a potential employee and/or entrepreneur.

20 software developers will be picked and taught the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) principles, (which is often missing from traditional education, practices and processes), how to understand/translate technical writings in order to effectively communicate with stakeholders (other developers, engineers and most importantly clients for each project), and mobile & web programming. During the program, we will provide you with expert knowledge needed to develop, create and start a successful project that will benefit your local community. Technology and business professionals from all over the world will be guest mentors.

“Simply put, trainees work on real projects for real clients while receiving the fundamental experience only gained by working in the software industry”

Upon completion of the program, software products will be built/delivered and utilized by their respective clients who are involved in every step of the training program (following an Agile SCRUM methodology). Trainees approached stakeholders for requirements, User Stories, acceptance criteria etc. and kept them updated throughout the whole development process.

Training Overview:
Classes will be held 4 business days a week Monday through Thursday between 6:00 and 8:30 PM Accra time. Each class will be divided into 2 sessions: lectures and labs. In case of impediments during the week, Saturdays will be used for make-up sessions.

During lab sessions trainees will be organized in 4 groups of 5 and work on their specific projects. Lecture sessions are reserved for material discussion, learning and tests.
Instructors will alternate depending on the chapter or topic of that week.

Eligibility
Coders4Africa and Mobile Web Ghana will select 20 applicants based upon their skills and motivation. Applicants will be divided into 4 teams of 5 and are expected to already have an understanding of the mobile and software industry and display a strong motivation to develop a mobile service. If you have already developed an app or tool, you will have an upper hand. Each group will be assigned a project and client and consist of the following:

1.A team lead (generally the most advanced or experienced individual). The team lead will have a role to provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership for the rest of his team members. Team leads themselves will be advised and mentored by instructors.

2.Teams will be organized in such a way that they will be composed of a mixture of talent varying from designers, database developers and core programmers. But above all they will be taught to wear different hats as they progress through the lifecycle of their individual projects.
