FiME Training Ends Successfully

After five weeks of intensive hands-on training on Mobile App Development, the Females In Mobile Entrepreneurship (FiME) training has successfully ended at the MWG lab.

Fifteen (15) females were selected through an application and interview process to participate in the training programme. The participants were comprised of students, recent graduates and a few workers.

The FiME project is an initiative of MWG supported by WeTech and Google to help create a community of female technology entrepreneurs. There’s no doubt that the technology industry is male dominated; as such FiME is to help bridge the gap between male and female representation in the tech ecosystem.

During the months of September and October, qualified trainers from Coders4Africa, Nandimobile, Vodafone and the MWG community experts provided training on:

Introduction to Mobile Apps Development;
User Interface and User Experience;
Value Added SMS application;
Android Development;
Google Cloud Platform;
and Mobile Entrepreneurship.

The trainees were guided to generate ideas and create prototypes of their apps. The pitched their ideas to a panel of judges from the University of Professional Studies, Retail Tower, Nandimobile and DevHub. They received useful feedback from the pitching session to put into their final products.

Along the training, the trainees received visits from female mentors: Co-Founder of Stavansis Yaa Dakoa-Ofori Darko, Co-Founder of Nandimobile – Anne Amuzu and Ethel Cofie, a serial entrepreneur, and YALI/Washington Fellowship Fellow. They provided inspiration to the girls and challenged them to be bold and not to succumb to the notion that tech industry is a place for males only.

The girls are currently working at the MWG lab to create their final products.
