Imagine a world where every girl and woman not only dreams of greatness but is empowered to achieve it. Women’s Equality Day commemorates the pivotal moment in 1920 when the 19th Amendment was ratified, granting women in the United States the right to vote. This landmark achievement marked a significant victory in the fight for gender equality, yet it also highlighted the ongoing struggle for women to claim their rightful place in all spheres of life.
On August 26th, Women’s Equality Day, we took a powerful step toward this vision, turning inspiration into action through the Shifting Blame Series at American Corner, Agbogba. Our event this year, themed “Bridging the Gap in Education and Career for Girls and Women with the Right Mindset,” was a powerful continuation of this legacy.
Dr. Dzifa Abra Attah, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry, delivered an inspiring presentation that motivated young female students from West Africa Senior High School. Her message was clear: believe in your potential and pursue your dreams with unwavering confidence and determination. By equipping these young women with the right mindset, we aim to break down the barriers that have historically limited their opportunities.
The event was further distinguished by the presence of dignitaries from the U.S. Embassy Ghana. Their participation underscored the global commitment to gender equality and the crucial partnership between the U.S. Embassy and Mobile Web Ghana in this endeavor. Their support highlights the importance of collaborative efforts to eradicate gender-based violence and create pathways for women and girls to excel in every field.
