Haccra, (HACCRA Accra Hack-day & Ideation Seminar) was held for the first time in Ghana at the AITI-KACE centre on 9th May 2013. The event was organized by Andrew Missingham, a creative consultant based in the UK and sponsored by Vodafone, British Council and AITI-KACE.
Andrews’s primary objective is to create an African app store for feature phones. Majority of Africa’s population use feature phones, feature phones are “not so smart,” as compared to smart phones like the iPhone, Blackberry or Samsung S4. Basic features available on most feature phones are internet, sms and maybe a 1.3 megapixel camera.
Haccra was a one day event that took participants through the process of brainstorming ideas to working on prototypes. Concepts such as the business model Canvas by Alex Osterwalder and the six thinking hats by Edward De Bono were introduced.
The potential of feature phones was unleashed by the many interesting solutions presented by each team. Each solution has the ability to transform lives in Ghana and ripple across Africa. The ideas ranged from health, agricultural, financial to entertainment solutions etc.
At the end of the event, a Samsung S4 award was given to Kelvin Nyame for his hard work and contribution the program.
