International Sports Day is more than just a global celebration of physical activity; it’s a reminder of
how sports unite us all across borders, cultures, and backgrounds. The United Nations recognizes this day to
emphasize the role of sports in fostering peace, promoting mental and physical health and encouraging
sustainable development.
This year, Mobile Web Ghana, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Ghana-American Corner Agbogba and SEED
Afrique, hosted an engaging event that honored these values. Florence Toffa, Director of Mobile Web Ghana,
opened the event with a thought-provoking address on the crucial role sports play in maintaining mental health.
She emphasized how physical activity contributes not only to physical fitness but also to emotional and
psychological well-being, aligning with the UN’s commitment to using sports as a tool for fostering peace,
equality, and global understanding
The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including students from Helez Training Centre (HTC) Language School, members of Leti Arts, professionals from SEED Afrique and American Corner Agbogba Patrons. The games on offer ranged from traditional activities like Monopoly, Oware, and Ludo, to more contemporary digital games such as e-FIFA and Blurr Racing, providing a well-rounded experience for all involved.
The objective of the event, as emphasized by Madam Florence Toffa, was to connect people from different walks of life and create opportunities for learning and development. By engaging in these games, participants not only honed their competitive spirit but also forged meaningful relationships with individuals from the tech industry and beyond. It was an occasion where the importance of physical activity was underscored by the wealth of networking opportunities it provided, fostering both personal and professional growth.
