On the 10th December 2011, the first mobile entrepreneurs event took place to discuss pertinent issues facing mobile entrepreneurs in Ghana. The attendees were mainly developers and technology enthusiasts. Harold Ntorinkansah Jnr was the MC for the event. Yaw Ankoma Agyapong – strategist Vodafone Ghana talked about building a profitable mobile apps business. He advised the entrepreneurs to get their maths right, do customer validation and employ someone who would do marketing and sales. Pius Tuffour, VAS Manager- Vadone talked about how to develop relevant value added service in the industry. He noticed that most content aggregators replicate the same content across board. He engaged the entrepreneurs to discuss how to develop relevant content for consumers and told them to think out of the box. He stated that if entrepreneurs have the right content, the telco companies will chase them to market it for them. He emphasised that as a startup, it is advisable to deal with content aggregators because the teleco companies may not have the time to deal with them directly. John Totoe, told the audience that if their applications cannot be relevant in the next five years, then they might be wasting their time. Five different entrepreneurs shared their mobile apps projects with the speakers for feedback. We also discussed the various mobile applications that can be developed in the educational sector, government sector, health sector and the entertainment industry. A mailing list will be created to keep the audience updated and encourage knowledge sharing.
