Though the digital world is changing rapidly, there is still a concerning gender disparity in the tech sector. Less than 30% of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professionals worldwide are women, despite the fact that women make up more than half of the workforce (Source: International Telecommunication Union). This underrepresentation highlights the critical role of initiatives like Girls in ICT Day, which aims to encourage girls to consider careers in STEM and pursue leadership roles within the tech industry
In celebration of Girls in ICT Day, Mobile Web Ghana partnered with MTN Ghana to empower young minds! Over 76 girls from Kwabenya Senior High School, Neswell Academy, and Uman Utab Basic School participated in an inspiring ICT for Girls training focused on leadership in the tech industry.
The day was packed with engaging activities designed to spark passion and provide valuable insights:
Interaction with Female Tech Leaders: The girls had the incredible opportunity to interact with successful women in the tech field, gaining firsthand knowledge and inspiration.
Journeys of Women in Tech: Through a dedicated breakout session, the girls delved into the stories of influential women in tech, learning about their journeys and the challenges they overcame.
Building Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem: A dedicated discussion focused on fostering self-confidence and self-esteem within the girls, equipping them with the tools to navigate their chosen career paths with assertiveness and resilience.
By the end of the program, the girls left not only with a broadened awareness of the exciting opportunities in STEM fields and diverse career paths within tech, but also with a valuable network of mentors who will support them on their journeys.
This impactful event highlighted the importance of empowering girls to pursue their passions in technology and become the future leaders in the field. We are grateful to MTN Ghana for their collaboration in making this a resounding success!
