The Unlocking Women And Technology training program is in its second year of impact in the Ghanaian technology industry. Neither has the vision changed neither nor the drive to make impact abated. This training program is designed to address the problem of low representation of women in the Ghanaian technology industry. By training young ladies and equipping them with both programming and entrepreneurial skills, they can enter the technology industry and stand firmly on their two feet while touching lives and improving the way businesses are run with the software solutions they will develop.
It has been over three months of training in HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap 3 and JavaScript. The UWAT 17 ladies have already built their websites and developed their business ideas. The end of the training program last year was characterized by an all-female pitching competition amongst the UWAT 17 ladies. The judges were blown away by how the ideas of these young ladies had been well-developed into potential business startups and also by the technical skills exhibited by each of them in developing their own websites.
This year’s final pitch is upon us and it will be held on two separate days. The dates for the pitches are 12th and 14th October 2017 at Ispace Ghana, Labone. We are in for a treat. In September, the trainees underwent a demo-pitch exercise to make them familiar with making presentations of such nature and also to help them better present their ideas to an audience. Corrections were made where necessary and compliments given accordingly. I believe it is the hope of all who will attend the final pitch, that come 12th and 14th October 2017, the UWAT 17 ladies will present great business ideas in all eloquence, excellence, and confidence.
